Opened up the rear-end on my new 1980 R/T and noticed that its a sure-grip. I couldnt read the gear ratio so does anyone know what gear sets they used in Aspens and Volares?

should be a 2.76,or 2.21 if its an automatic. if its a manual 3.23.i could be wrong. this should get you realativly close! Trans in neutral, One tire blocked, one tire rotated through two full turns while you count quarter-turns of the driveshaft by noting how many U-joint caps come to face the pavement.
Divide that count by four and that gets you within very close range of the rear axle ratio.

I thought some of our cars got 3.55's. Could of been a rarely choosen option, but I could be wrong. I know a majority of the cars were 2.76's.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will have to try that out 1980volare thanks. Hopefully its around 3.23.
The ratio is stamped so close to the teeth on the ring gear that its unreadable :(

I have an 8-1/4 here for mine that had a set of 2.71s in it, that I have a brand new Sure Grip siting here for, along with a set of 3.55s and a full Randys Ring&Pinion Master Install kit. Housing all blasted and multiple coats of POR 15 on it! (car had a 2.76, 7-1/4 weakling in it when I got it)

I found the build sheet under the carpet so I was able to confirm that everything was indeed original.
The options as far as gear ratios go are:
2.24/2.26
2.45/2.47
2.71/2.76
2.94
3.21/3.23
3.55
The gears in my R/T are 2.24/2.26

Bummer. I suppose that was typical for a second gas-crunch era car, though.
You can always count the number of ring gear and pinion gear teeth and get the ratio that way.
