    recall brake line shield 76-77

    This is a NOS recall brake line shield that I believe was for the 76 77 F bodies. I remember having one on my 76 Volare. $13 shipped US.

    Is that plastic? It looks vaguely familiar.

    Yeah, that's that piece on the inner fender by the battery right? Never knew it was a recall item.

    Yeah, it`s plastic so the battery acid doesn`t eat it. It was protect the brakes lines IIRC.

    I found this online. It was part of a brake hose and brake line corrosion recall.
    Recall Description
    ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, DAMAGE TO THE FRONT WHEEL BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM COULD OCCUR DUE TO FRONT WHEEL BRAKE LINE TUBE CORROSION. FRONT WHEEL BRAKE HOSES MAY BECOME BRITTLE AND CRACK DUE TO PROLONGED OPERATION IN COLD TEMPERATURES.
    Possible Effects
    Action
    THE DEALER WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT HOSES IF FOUND NECESSARY AND IN ADDITION, WILL INSTALL A PLASTIC SHIELD BETWEEN THE BATTERY THERMO-GUARD AND THE TUBES TO PREVENT CORROSION.

    VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; STEEL BRAKE TUBES.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: LOSS OF FRONT WHEEL BRAKING CAPABILITY COULD RESULTWHICH WOULD INCREASE THE VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE AND COULD LEAD TO ANACCIDENT.NOTE: ILLUMINATION OF THE RED WARNING SIGNAL ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOULDALERT DRIVER THAT BRAKE MALFUNCTION HAS OCCURRED.

    Two of the 76 Volares I had still had them on it when I bought them. The PO probably removed it on my 77.

    It may have never gotten the recall done (your '77), so maybe it was never there, possibly, perhaps, thinking out loud.

    That was back when batteries were 12 mouth and leaked acid everywhere.

    I'm pretty sure I don't have one of those parts in there. And the way this car was when I got it I expect the front lines have all the damage accumulated by leaky 12 month batteries back in the first 10 or 20 years of its life. I'll schedule that check for right after I get it back from 2 wheels to 4...
