ITs been awhile though id give a quick update and couple pics . Replaced the front bumper and got cragars . The heads developed a nasty tick so we got a set of 273 closed chamber heads and are having them rebuilt. the machine shop is about to be on the noose though , that's for a whole other update . anyway . might be picking up a rebuilt late model 318 with the swirl port heads . al dome ready to go. stay tuned in the following weeks month or so as we move toward getting her running . I love cragars even though I don`t have them on my car. Years ago you could only get the unilug rims which I hated. The new cragars have slightly flatter spokes for what ever reason vs the old cragars.

well I bought the late model 318 , it has rebuilt heads and the lower end is only refreshed , looks like std bearings and pistons , ill be disassembling it this week to check the condition of the bearings and crank, bearings look new but I cant say for certain , I just pulled one rod cap . Ill get the block checked for cylinder wear, its been honed but im not trusting the work . mean time ive got a machine shop building me a set of 2 year only closed chamber 273 heads, last October they sent them home with me and when I was installing thme I noticed one was shaved more than the other , they failed to tell me that a shim was needed for the one , im thinking , bull$hit . so I took them back and im thinking the guy is not too too truth full . he's saying one was warped more than the other , im thinking wouldn't that have been a red flag. anyway. hopefully he didn't screw the heads up . but in case I got the heart shaped cc ones now !!

If it is a daily or occasional driver, honestly I would run as you bought it unless you want some performance stuff done to it. If you pull the engine apart it can get costly for the machine work alone. Also if you are going to do all that then I would have started with a 360. Parts cost the same. I`m not sure how you knew the head was shaved more then the other (was it that obvious?)but good catch. I don`t know what the talk of shims is all about. Never heard that before(except some racing engines) but there is a first time for everything I guess. Surely a head could be warped if the engine was overheated or something like that but he should have told you. How much more was the one side shaved more then the other? Can it be made up with different thickness head gaskets? If it is shaved a lot then the intake side needs to be adjusted or you will have sealing problems at the intake gasket.
