Just checking out your R/T again. My best friend in the Army had your exact car - he had the 1979 black T-top 360 R/T and I had a 1976 sun roof white RR with a built 340 from a wrecked Duster (blew up the 318).

If I recall correctly in 1983 he paid around $2,800 for his off a car lot by Ft. Bragg. His parents wired the money to him, back then that was the biggest stack of money we ever saw.

Man I wish I could turn back the clock! I traded the RR in for a 76 T/A.

There are a lot of cars I wish I could of or would have kept. Not enough money to keep them all nor the place to store them. I just got lucky with this one.

I hear you. Back then I never had the place or money to keep a car other than my driver at that time. If I desired a different car I had to sell it to afford the newer / different car.

Back in the 80's as a recent HS grad I already had 3 storage locations for my cars. For $20 a month and mowing the lawn, two nice old ladies in town let me use their garages. I had 2 more cars in another nice widow's raised wooden floor barn outside town but I don't recall the price. Maybe $30? Garages changed as folks went into assisted living and I really thought I had accomplished something when I got a place big enough to keep everything including myself at one property where the big shop was 135x85. I got spoiled in 13 years of renting that property. Moving into 1/4 of that space that I could afford to buy elsewhere changed a lot of things.

But life is good! Thinking back there's only been one time where I only had a single F-body for a couple years. Had several TA's along the way and many other brands and styles too. But no Chevy stayed more than a couple weeks. If it wasn't a quick fix n flip, it had no place in my world.

What I remember now is, when I was in high school (class of '82), is all the cars you could buy for anywhere from $100 to $1,000 that are now worth ten times that, even in the same condition as they were then in Wisconsin. Read that as rust. Then again to most teenagers, $1000 car may as well have been $100,000. Couldn't afford either one, lol.

Around 1986 or '87, I could have bought a complete, mostly original (aside from mags and headers) 1969 1/2 A12 4-speed Super Bee. Had the usual rot in the lower 1/4's, front fenders and trunk floor but, for a Wisconsin car, it wasn't too bad, and ran like a champ. Asking price was $2,500 At that time, just like in high school, there was no way I could afford to buy it. Also remember Hemi 'Cuda's for $2,500, a Superbird for $1,700 (IIRC), a $500 AAR Cuda (tough shape), on and on.................sigh. Heck, I paid a whole $700 for my first car, a 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe in 1981. A buddy of mine around 1983, bought an almost mint '78 Lil Red Express with less than 50K on the odometer from a Ford dealers used car lot (it was traded in on a new '83 F150 he said). Sticker was $1,895 and he got them down to $1,600. Ah yes, the good old days.
1979 Aspen Sunrise 500". Bought in 1987 with 72,000 miles and a mighty E24 California emission 90hp leaning tower of power/4-speed
1996 Dakota with a torque monster (not) 3.9L V-6 and automatic owned since 1998. Now demoted to winter duty
