Curious about the headliner. How are you getting one made?

An upholstery shop close to me makes them. When I took him the car and removed headliner that was in a few pieces several years ago he said it wasn't a problem but he was concerned about the hump for the front seat belt retractor that bolts to the roof above the trim panel. I removed that retractor and welded in bolt plates and installed a turning loop there for my aftermarket seat belts so no more hump. Kevin makes the headliners by forming a black ABS plastic that is about an 1/8" thick and then covers the plastic with whatever material you would want.

On another note it happens that today 42 years ago was a Friday and I purchased and drove away with my Aspen R/T SuperPak T-Topped car as a very excited 23 year old!

Kevin?? Member here? Never knew anyone made them in ABS. I did know the A body headliner was made in ABS. How do they fit? Anyone have pics of it installed?

That is the guys name that owns the upholstery shop. He doesn't have any Mopars and does not care about our F's but he is a good upholstery fabricator. No pictures and he has not made one yet. I am going to take him my car sometime this year and have him make one for me. That is the last part of my reconditioning of the Aspen. The shop is in Rosewood Heights Illinois.

oh ok sorry, I thought you where talking about two different people. So he was saying the seat belt hump would be hard to mold into the ABS? I don`t think that would be a option for me. It is a shame someone doesn`t reproduce the headliner like the A body one.

Is your headliner sagging or broken ? Do you not have one 77rr2x4s?

He just made the statement that the basic headliner would be as easy to make as most with the exception of the seat belt humps. He said he didn't know how he was going to get the hump made into the plastic. He said maybe he could put a block there or something when he was molding the plastic. Not that it couldn't be done he just said he would have to think about a way to get the correct form into the plastic.

DC, I have a headliner but it has a sag in the middle. I am going to take it out and try to get the sag out. I was just wondering about the ABS headliner in hopes that someone was making them just in case.
