I learned that a long time ago. Stick (no pun intended) with 3M Scotch and buy the highest priced roll and you will never be disappointed. Same for cheap duct tape (Duck brand for example). Duct tape,,,,,,,,,,stupid name because you never use it on ducts.....).

Check with Advance/Carquest, or Napa. All the ones around here carry the good tape. That's also the only place for the home user to buy automotive paint and paint products, as well as body work suplies, around this area. There's one dedicated paint/body store here but they don't sell retail, only wholesale to body shops. In other words, Joe Blow can't just walk in off the street. Years ago they also did retail but from what I heard, the EPA and other meddling government regulations made them to decide to only sell to the professional. Probably also had something to do with lawyers, liability and other BS. Rant over now!

It is a amazing how many different types of masking tape are out there now. When I was a kid is was the standard yellowish scotch tape in different widths and that was about it.

That's the thing. This is my Axalta store and that stuff says 3M on it. But it's barely usable as a secondary line. It was only after buying from a trusted source that I figured it out in the garage. I'll have to try the PPG store that isn't any further but requires going thru two towns instead of none, to get to. I learned to shoot on NAPA Martin Senour but there aren't any NAPA paint stores left in Ohio.

Here's a neat pic I took from my books earlier today for a friend. I've always called the color of this car Alpine White. But in our era it's Spinnaker or Eggshell. Alpine was the Plymouth name from back in 73. Took me a while to even realize the name changes. I ordered 79 EW1 Alpine by memory and the can I got says 73 Alpine. Minor heart attack moment with a $200 gallon of custom mixed paint before I grabbed my book!

I agree -- the contour of the 76-79 hood make the scoops look like a OEM offering.
