This one just set my budget plans back for the month! Messages started pouring in late yesterday afternoon with links, from Kansas to Canada, that it was posted on fmj. By 7pm I was in Detroit loading it up!

Some time last year I got the bright idea to build a kart from scratch. Made a dimensional plan from an existing frame, a cut list and stock list. Then started bending.

It wasn't for me, and not going to be picked up til this spring so after the major hassle of welding the basic frame ladder and keeping it straight without being jigged on a proper layout table I set it aside to complete this year.

We all know how this year has been going so far. But I got word of an impending visit so broke out all the pieces I'd stored in a neat bundle taking up much less space than a complete chassis would have all winter. And that's what I worked on for the past two weeks. Learned my lesson. WAY too much construction time without having jigs. But now I can make cage kits if guys wanted to mount their classic bodies to random other chassis at least.

Spindles and steering aren't cheap so I heavily modified and repurposed these from a zero turn mower I got from a friend. Got the heim joints i substituted for tie rods from it also. Center link is from the handle of an old shopping cart that's now an engine dolly. Interior is a sheet of 1/4" HDPE from Menards cut heated and bent to suit. Rather than solidly mount the body i used shed door hinges on the front to clamshell it giving trunk access that let's a cooler be opened right thru the back window. Various bushed hitch pins secure it while being cushioned.

Oh, last but not least the handle that let's this be a giant version of a toddlers wagon until she's old enough for a go-kart is from an old Radio Flyer. Just need to have daddy pull her around in it now!
