    P/S Gears

What are your opinions on the better than stock steering gears? I am thinking about changing mine out before the cruise season starts in 2019 so help me out to decide on a good one!

I put a stage 2 in my 73 charger and honestly I couldn`t tell much difference.

When I got mine 8 or 9 years ago it leaked every kind of fluid. I tried to do a complete rebuild of my steering box and got it wrong so I got a stage 1 from Firm Feel. I love it. For them, stage 1 is firmer than factory, but it's still a 70s American car. I probably should have gone with a 2, but it was still worth doing a 1.

I've been on that box ever since. At least 2.5 of those years and about 34,000 miles, this car was my daily. It's still strong, accurate, and not leaking.

I am assuming that stage 2 is a firm feel unit?

For what it's worth, I put a FF stage 2 in my Aspen and am happy with it. HUGE improvement over the stock one I overhauled. BTW, I will NEVER overhaul a p.s gear ever again.

Honestly it was so long ago i don`t remember. It was either Steer and Gear or Firm Feel. Needless to say I was disappointed. At least some of the play was gone and it didn`t leak. Maybe I just got a crappy unit. I wasn`t about to take it back out again.

I called Matt at Firm Feel and talked with him for a while. I ended up ordering a Stage 3. There is a four week lead time so I will not get it put in for a while but I am really interested in how the gear is going to feel.

Stage 1 is nice, but still not quite as firm as my modern car. So I'd say stage 3 will be great.

The way it was explained to me was stage 3 has nothing to do with the steering power side but actually puts more and harder "feel" into the steering like the power steering is fine but you have to put more input through the steering wheel. I am not sure that is the proper way he explained it but that is how I took it.

I'll be real interested in what you think of it.
