Temp control switch panel acting up

    Here's a video demonstrating the problem: https://streamable.com/38s0x

    1. Off Switch: Doesn't push in at all
    2. Both AC Switches : Work fine. Push in and activate AC
    3. Vent Switch: Pushes in and seems to be working
    4. Heat Switch: Doesn't even push in
    5. Defrost Switch: Doesn't even push in
    6. Fan Speed Switch: Does nothing. Just getting the default barely-a-breeze of air with no variation

It was all working perfectly fine last week. So my question is, doesn't this mean the whole unit crapped out? Or is it related to a different problem?

And if I need to replace it, will this swap right in? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Temperature...YAAOSwke9aHdBt

    Thanks in advance!

the white switch in the pic is what you need. you shouldn`t need the whole assembly. there should be a part number on your old switch like the one in the pic. if you get a used one it may be on its way out too. i would look for a new one.

Without pulling it out and looking at it, it's hard to tell. My GUESS is possibly the electrical connection on the vacuum control switch had high resistance, got hot and melted. The fan control goes through it so the fan shuts off in "OFF". It's possible (if that's what happened), the heat messed up the vacuum control portion.

The one you linked to is different. Instead of "VENT" it has "HI/LO". This is the one you need and it's NOS for the same price as the wrong used one.

I seen many of those push button switches where the backs were coming off/apart.

the vacuum "pod" on the unit jams up...40 year old late 1970's plastic...what could go wrong
prob tossed more than I saved.

you may be able to free it up but IMO it will have to come out to do so.

I shot quite a lot of electronics cleaner into mine while working it and it still works years later. Although it only freed it up a little bit. FWIW.
