Yes, filler neck goes in from behind the panel and the screws hold it to the panel. It has a seal also. Plus you need to seal the adaptor to the outside of the panel so the gas cap seals.

another option is to use a ford t-bird fuel door recess (87), it fits the mopar trim ring perfectly allowing to use in place or relocate it higher on the quarter

The neck is on the inside of the panel as someone said.

The adapter can't be much smaller around or the mounting screws would be in the edge. That said I did remove a little less than a 1/16th radius to get the chrome part of the original gas cap to fit over it. I also cut a big hole in the middle of the original cap to go around the neck and drilled the three mounting holes.

Now all of the adapter ring that shows in the previous photos is chrome and the screw holes are covered. Looks better that way.

It would be nice to have other flip tops to compare side by side. The only member I know of that lives near me is Deconstructor Jim, but I won't go near his place this time of year. He lives two blocks from the surface of the Sun.

    Sounds Great! Share pix!
How is that old dog Jim? Is he doing anything with Mopars these days? I've heard people haven't gotten any response from him and figure he must be at some different point in his life now a days.
