    Rattle Traps

Next one to be finding it's way to the Last Chance Malaise Ranch. Turns out this is the same car I first became aware of when owned by a friend in Maryland. Was in Vermont prior, supposedly abandoned or at least neglected there. Been a few other places since.

I've recalled where I know the plates it sold on from Vermont in 2013. They coincide with the story that it was abandoned or neglected behind a motel there in the 80's. They are not Vermont plates. Can anyone identify them as I have from the very pixelated photos from 2013? Apparently there's also a connection with this website as the car was listed and sold from here at that time.

OK, nobody guessed. But those are New York plates.

Since this is my latest project post, I'm going to change the name of it. To; Rattle Traps. I've got way too many irons in the fire. There's always something new needing my attention. No point cluttering the site with a million posts.

The 80 Sport Wagon currently still resides in central Michigan with a friend until such time as we get tired of Social Distancing now that spring would normally make delivery possible. So I'm working on other things. I've cut up a 79 R/T and a 76 SE in the past couple weeks. I have four more in line for the same treatment as time goes on.

At least today was just dirt and grime. I was going to do more but discovered a need for a more extensive sturctural repair than I'm looking to get into right now. Nothing too serious. It will hold. It's driveable as soon as I finish my current work and get it running. But it takes this little project into a larger project I'm not looking to have right now as I'm attempting to move em thru and get stuff done that truly matters more than getting hung up on one thing for half a week or more. So I just moved the gas tank in the new late '77 White R/T that came in from Kansas in trade, over a notch and extended the filler neck, then stuck a sure grip 8.25 axle in that doesn't have a wasted pinion bearing, from the 79 R/T I cut up a few weeks ago. Put a fresh brake hose to the axle and ran line to good serviceable and recently on the road 10x2.5 brake set I took out of another 7.25 axle car I cut up last week. On the driver side. Got over to the pass side, and right off the bat snapped the bleeder off in the wheel cyl I'd saved from that car last week as soon as I checked to make it work in the vise. Not screwing with anything that wants a fight right now. Called Autozone and ordered a bunch of other brake parts to pick up tomorrow despite that being available tonight. Oh, and I swept up the trunk area and garage floor more times than I could count while my beating and banging and rattle gunning pieces in and out laid that Kansas dirt all over, over, and over, and over again. Just cleaned up my hands and called it an evening.

I may be losing my mind here in Covid Quarantine.

Anybody for a Zinger style Roadrunner 38" Zero Turn mower?

LOL! In the immortal words of Joe Walsh, I might be crazy but I have a good time!

So can anybody tell me what day it is, or if it matters? Is this what retirement is like? Just screw around with stuff and laugh about it?

Must be a real b***** getting in the seat!

No Covid quarantine here, we're as busy as ever at work, which is a good thing.

My 2nd Sport Wagon shown above arrived yesterday. We checked the tags together and it lists original destination as being I 6. Is that Philipines? The special car code on 2nd tag shown above turns out to be 04. NO IDEA what that means. Hard to tell what weirdness it was originally built to, since the entire interior is stripped out and any build sheets long gone. But it has manual front windows, and Power rear! I'd love to know how that looked on the driver door panel.

Can't reach the brown wagon to bring it up from the rear high ground after crazy Noah like rains all spring but its sitting in good company up front now anyway.

Picked up this 57 or 58 IH 350 Utility yesterday. Ran and operated great at the seller's place although it isn't charging despite having the GM single wire alternator 12V conversion. As soon as I went to load it up, blew a hose. So I dropped the trailer and came back to the house for tools and another hose first. Looks like I'll be replacing 4 other bad off looking hoses just as precautions before starting to work this thing too.

Specs said just the tractor weighs 4550. I'm betting that's most of 2 extra tons of attachments. My trailer springs don't even think of starting to move til 3 1/2 and I sure knew that thing was back there on the way home!

Once I got to the house it wasn't getting fuel now. Ugh. Cleaned the sediment bowl and screen and went thru the whole rigamarole of getting that to seal again. Turned out it was out of gas. Should have checked that first. Lol! Then the fuel line over the bellhousing was leaking. Fixed that too. Then with free flowing fuel it just started pouring out of the carburetor overflow. Geez what's next? Turned the fuel off and let it dry out a bit. Cracked it open slightly to start then opened it more to run for unload. Runs alright but not as it was when pretty clogged up or as it should. Carb is bad for sure. It's out of a collection and hasn't been run much or at all in many years before sitting outside for several months now.

I'm not going to mess with it. Sending it over to a friend of the family to have him make it right. That's what he does. Better that I pay him for his experience than muddle around with it when I can make the $ to pay him by doing things I know much better.
