I wonder that also. You can buy NOS passenger tailights all ove the place. Driver's side, zip. Odd...........................
1979 Aspen Sunrise 500". Bought in 1987 with 72,000 miles and a mighty E24 California emission 90hp leaning tower of power/4-speed
1996 Dakota with a torque monster (not) 3.9L V-6 and automatic owned since 1998. Now demoted to winter duty

On my 77 volare the drivers side housing and lens was cracked. For me it seemed to be the way the sheet metal at the seam was uneven on that side of the tail light opening. When tightened down the lens or housing would crack.
BTW, my crash book doesn`t show a part number on the housing separate. Only a assembly is shown. I don`t have a 79 parts book to verify. The number for the assy is 4076863

Guess I should have said NOS passenger side tailamp LENSES, not complete assy's seem to be available. The '79 parts book shows complete assy or lens only. Housing not serviced separate.

Part I had problems with mine is, some of the "pegs" were broken off. Ended up cutting them out of a spare set of broken '78 lights I had on the shelf and grafting them to my otherwise good housings. So far, so good.

Whenever I break one because the pal nut is not meant to be reversed, I immediately drill the center out and epoxy a steel rod in there after taking the nut off.

I've not found there to be such a problem of not finding driver side's other than the 79-80. The lenses are different after an unmarked date where they switched from the 78 molds with 3 pieces but all in red and clear instead of having the amber, to a two piece with a solid red molded part. But the housings are all the same. And now so many years after the fact it's not really a problem except that these tend to get broken on one side more than the other regularly.
