Someone with more intelligence will chime in. This is the pre-stage to get it done.

We don't know if the attachments were serviced or in your possession. To the layperson it reads as though it can't happen otherwise.

My area of intelligence is in welding things solid and making them pretty tho. No ambiguity there...

I would expect the attachments from the old site to be stored as files with human-useless names on the old server, or as some strange blobs in the sql database, either way the forum can refer to them and serve them. Files hosted externally (photobucket etc.) and linked don't count as they are just a URL embedded in the responses. If the backup were of the sql only, then the non-sql blob attachments would be lost. I would expect the backup tool from the vbulletin, if there is one, would know to inlucde the file type attachments, and the sql blob type would inherently be part of the sql backup.

So, with a backup that includes files as well as sql such as Eric refers to, the only likely problem with an import would be file name collisions between the new and old sites. That could lead to some serious confusion, and I don't know of a simple way to describe correcting the name collisions. It could certainly be done, but it could be really labor intensive an technical.

This all applies if we are talking about restoring the old site to an up and running forum like here.

If we are talking about restoring the old site to a fresh blank server then it should be no problem.

I'm sure that was as clear as mud. Hard for us techies to put it in real language.

So I have donated in the past to help with providing security. I am willing to bump in a little more even though I just had back surgery and don't know how much I am going to owe for that procedure. I am on a fixed income and cannot get surprised by large bills. How close are we to getting this done or did I miss something somewhere that the cost is covered now?
