    taillight interchange?

Hey guys, this is my first post as a member here. Just acquired a 78 Volare over the weekend, and am totally new to F bodies. I'd like to find a pair of taillights, as mine aren't in the best shape (passenger side cracked lense, driver side separated lense and cracked housing). My question is will other year taillights fit? I'm not entirely concerned with originality, as the car has the wrong grille and other non-original add-ons... seems like 76-77 lenses are more common and would be cheaper/easier to find.

4076096 and 4076097 are the part numbers for the 1978 lens. 76-77 tail light body panels are different so those won`t work. I`m pretty sure the 78 and 79 tail light body panels were the same. So the only other shot at it I see are 79 tail lights which are probably just as hard to find. Those numbers are 4076860 and 4076861

The '79 will fit except, they don't have the amber lenses. The backup lights are in that spot instead.

78, 79 and 80 will physically interchange, Aspen or Volare. Tail light panels are the same. Only difference is 78 has the amber lense segment (and 3 bulbs/side), 79-80 do not(2 bulbs/side).
76 and 77 are different, both the tail lights themselves and the tail light panels are also different between the Aspen and Volare.
I have some 78 Volare tail lights.

NOS 78 lenses can get pricey ( I know!! ). I would stick with the 78 version myself. Jim's got some nice used one's.

I've also been thinking of switching out the tail lights in my '79 Volare to the '76-'77 type. I know the body panel is different, but how, specifically? Are the openings larger on the '78+? I guess what I'm asking is... is it possible to change to the earlier style lights without having to change the body panel as well?

The tail lights on 76 77 are shorter and I`m not sure if the contour on the rear body panel is the same. They maybe can be made to work but I don`t see it without some welding and bodywork.
